The Liberal Arts, Grade by Grade
Every subject at St. David’s is taught as a gift from God’s hand, an invitation to know the world He made.
These early years are the foundation of all later learning, when children gather the words, numbers, stories, and songs the rest of their education will build upon. Faith here is the air the school breathes: the day begins in chapel, with prayer, Scripture, and the Church’s historic song, and children learn the catechism by heart, year by year.
Everything that follows in the classroom is ordered by Christ.

The Academy opens with kindergarten through fourth grade and adds a grade each year. The course is shown here through fifth.

A Curriculum Ordered by Christ
Latin
Latin begins in Kindergarten. Through the University of Dallas’s Latin through Stories, children meet the language that carried the West’s learning and find the roots of much of their own.
Literature
Great stories form the imagination before arguments can form the mind. Each year opens a new kind of tale: rhyme and verse, fables and folk tales, myth and legend, fairytales and fantasy, and the classics of childhood.
Language Arts
First the sounds and spellings of English through Logic of English, then the structure of language itself through First Language Lessons. Copywork and recitation, drawn from the Psalms and the poets, run through every year.
Mathematics
Number is part of the order God wrote into creation. Through Singapore’s Dimensions Math, students build real mastery and mental fluency, one level each year, concept before procedure.
History
History is one long story, told in order. The youngest walk through Scripture with The Story Bible, then travel out into Story of the World, moving through the ages in step with the science of each era.
Science
Science here is rooted in wonder at the world God made. The early years study nature up close; the upper years follow science as it actually unfolded, from the ancient world into the Scientific Revolution.
Art
Students learn to see. Through the Core Knowledge sequence they meet the great works and take up the hand skills to make their own, at a new level each year.
Music
From the Psalms of David to the Church’s historic song, music trains the ear and lifts the voice in praise. Children sing daily, and a Core Knowledge level guides each year.
Physical Education
The body, too, is God’s good gift. Through games, movement, and play in the open air, children grow in strength, coordination, and the habits of good sportsmanship. Sound bodies serve sound minds.
